This year as a major part of our curriculum, we will be researching and writing a research paper about an issue that concerns our community, our country, or our world. You will need to choose an issue that you feel passionately about. Examples include: child labor in cocoa farming, puppy mills, genetically modified food, the acidification of the ocean, etc.
You will not only be writing a research paper about your topic, but also taking action to create public awareness about your issue or help to remedy it in some way. Examples of this include: Creating an informational video, fundraising, writing a letter to influential people requesting action from them, creating a petition for something and collecting signatures, etc.
The world is your oyster for this project, and I want you to find a topic that truly inspires you as we will be working on it for the majority of the year. Each Thursday, you will bring in one fact to share with the class from an article you have read about your topic. We will be drafting the paper in several phases. At the end, you should have a product you are incredibly proud to share.
In order to gather ideas for a topic, I would like each of you to post a link to an article about a potential topic and answer the following question: Why would this topic be a good choice for writing a research paper about?
Due: Tuesday, October 14

www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-18353963This is an interesting article about water shortages. Since water is the one resource that humans can't live without, in a water shortage many people would die of dehydration. This topic would be a good choice because its relevant and since we are going through a drought right now, as a writer we can relate to the topic and even provide examples of how water shortage has impacted us.
